SUNGJAE IM LEADS BY THREE AT THE SJM MACAO OPEN 2026 HALF WAY MARK

LAST YEAR’S RUNNER UP WANG WEI-HSUAN T2 AFTER BOOGEY FREE ROUND

[Macao SAR, 16 October, 2026]: Korean star Sungjae Im shot a superb second round seven-under, total-63 to climb to the top of the SJM Macao Open 2026 leaderboard at the half way mark. With two bogey-free days and 13 birdies, the highest ranked golfer at the prestigious event will start the third round with a three-shot lead over Wang Wei-hsuan of Chinese Taipei and American Austen Truslow.

Im said: “Two rounds, 64 yesterday, 63 today, bogey-free rounds for two days. I am happy. The wind the next two days is going to be an important factor for me. If it is blowing strongly, I will play safe, and when it is calmer, I will try and attack the pins a bit more, play more aggressively.”

The SJM Macao Open 2025 runner-up Wang matched Im’s round to climb to joint-second on the leaderboard. The 27-year-old, who lost out on a tightly contested sudden-death play-off against Dominic Foos last year, commented: “I feel really good with this bogey-free round. The driver felt good today, I was straight and hit a lot of the fairways, which gave me opportunities for birdies that I captured. I like the course, played here a couple of time, know it well. My caddie and I are good with playing in the wind, and we are dealing with it quite well at the moment.”

Nine-time professional tour champion Lee Chieh-po of Chinese Taipei and Wu Ashun, one of the most successful golfers in Chinese history are a further two shots behind, lying in joint-fourth.

Lee said: “I have been pretty solid the first two rounds, and my tee shots and putting are playing very well on this green. It is windy here but I just try to do my best at every event, I hope I finish in the top 10 this week.”

Joint overnight leaders alongside Sungjae Im – Zhou Yanhan and Will Florimo – had mixed fortunes on day two. The 18-year-old Chinese sensation Zhou shot a par round total-70 to make the cut at tied-14th place, while Australian Florimo shot a six-over-par to finish at 140-total, missing the cut.

After a solid day one, Hong Kong’s Matthew Cheung finished with a second round three-over-par total-73 over two days, missing the cut by one shot.

Local hope Kelvin Si Ngai, who carded a superb 65 yesterday, could not maintain his form. The 23-year-old went over by five shots in round two, and like Cheung, missed the cut by one shot.

Title-sponsored by SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”) for the fourth consecutive year, the prestigious event is one of the major sporting highlights on Macao’s annual international events calendar, and a cornerstone event on the Asian Tour, with a history of bringing amazing experiences for players and fans alike. The tournament will take place from 15-18 October at the spectacularly scenic Macau Golf & Country Club, located along the South China Sea, with international stars and elite regional talents competing for the coveted title.

In its 23-year history, the Macao Open has grown into a highlight on the Asian Tour calendar, attracting major champions such as Ernie Els, Nick Faldo, Fred Couples, Padraig Harrington, and Vijay Singh. Zhang Lianwei, a pioneer of golf in China, has won the prestigious event twice and remains the only golfer to have successfully defended his title in the tournament’s history.
